Lets get some things out of the way before I show you my rockin infographic I made on the FREE site canva.com. Also, here are the figures for August 2015 at $1,658.

December was crazy busy with proofreading, as youll see on the graphic below. Lots of Fiverr jobs and a couple of outside jobs found me as well. Ive done a ton of BlogHer work but that wont pay until March so youll see a spike then. Trying to get some of the regional parenting magazines to pay is really starting to make me mad and its time to work on the next edition of the book and make sure they get the boot so you dont have similar experiences. Ebooks did well this month only thanks to Kindle Unlimited, where you pay $10 a month and can have up to 10 ebooks on your Kindle at a time, switching them out with others. If people are grabbing my book that way and actually reading the pages, I get paid based on pages read and based on the pot of money of KU subscribers (I am one of them!). So if you get my book on KU, please take the time to flip through it!

Why I am sharing my income?
I like to show what can be done. I am able to fit in at least 20 working hours per week and usually more while homeschooling my kids, loving on my husband and taking the kids places to have fun (pool, sports, field trips, co-op, playdates, trips, etc.). I am not sharing this to brag or because I think I rock. I am sharing so you know that someone with no English degree can be a writer and a proofreader and make a decent income.

I recently decided to focus on just six main areas of income, as opposed to the way I used to do it, making pennies here and there in way too many online places. Diversification is still very important to online income for me, but by focusing on six areas, balls are not getting dropped and my time is more focused.

** I call Younique and Jamberry income "online" because I dont do vendor events or home parties.

STAY WITH ME HERE!
So what you see above is what I RECEIVED ... in my accounts and in the mail as checks. So a lot of that was EARNED before December. So what I EARNED in December is $2,279 and I worked 100 hours this month EVEN ... no joke! ... and Ill try to get better about tracking time I worked on my ebooks so you can see time put in on the front end of that for income on the back end eventually.

If you want to divide $2,279 EARNED in January by 100 hours worked, you get $22.79 per hour. Yes, that sounds great to be working at home all comfy cozy while my kids sleep and then they wake up and we homeschool and have a blast the rest of the day.

KEEP IN MIND, however, that taxes are not paid on that. And that my health insurance is through my husbands work. If you want to take about 20% off the top of that for taxes, just for fun, then I make $18.23 per hour. Still not bad and I set my own hours and dont work with people face-to-face, which rocks for my ADD!!!! I can make more if I rock magazine articles because I spent an hour or so on one and then if its decent it sells again and again, making my bottom line look AMAH-ZING!

The dollar amounts I show are what I actually RECEIVED in my hot little hand or PayPal account, not what I EARNED because things show up at different times and take different amounts of time to come around. Some months I may have a lot of articles in publications but dont show much income ... thats because checks will often show up later and many at one time.

All About Making Money on Fiverr as a Proofreader Writer and More! WAHM

I stumbled on Fiverr.com in April of 2013 when I was looking for a way to make money from home online to pay off some mounting dental bills and other things and my husband had FINALLY given in and suggested we get Internet at home.

I was not disappointed. I immediately had a full queue of jobs and found that I could customize my gigs ... if I was not busy I could put my gig on a 1-day delivery time. If I was full up, I could change it to a 29-day delivery time to discourage new orders. Give it a shot. Its a versatile way to make money online.

Starting Out

I dont know if I just got lucky or what but people gave a newbie a try and soon I had good reviews coming in and more jobs. I was so busy at one point in 2013 that I was outsourcing, which was a total shit show (Im going with two words for shit show instead of making it one ... haha!).

I shut down my outsourcing situation and tried to keep up with the work on my own but soon had no life and my kids were eating too much fast food all summer. I got a bad review because I was hurrying through my work and it all went to hell for a while. It picked back up and then I overused Vacation Mode.

Just in the last few months I have gotten back on and made a decent income again. Ive done many different gigs on Fiverr besides proofreading so poke around to see what else you can offer. I put my delivery on at least 3 days so that keeps my orders low enough to manage. The main guy who does 24-hour delivery basically works full-time all day long doing small jobs. The client is charged $5 and you receive $4. At first I thought that was robbery but now I realize THEY are finding the clients for me pretty much so I will happily take my $4 for proofreading 1,500 words. I got more orders when my gig was for 2,000 words but it was taking too long to proofread that for $4 with so many non-native English speakers sending projects my way. Those projects just take longer because they require more time and reworking.

Offering Good Customer Service on Fiverr or Anywhere

I was so excited to see that I was the #3 rated proofreader on Fiverr after only being on a couple of months. (The new Fiverr has come out, though, and I cant figure out how buyers can search by rating, which has slowed my business considerably).

I want to share how I do this, and its really very simple.

1. Deliver on time.
2. Communicate part one. If you cant deliver on time, let the buyer know.
3. Communicate part two. Put on your gig if you will be on vacation or taking some time off and that your delivery time has been extended.
4. Be fair. If you, for example, lower your proofing word count that you will do for one gig, give previous buyers the same rate you always gave them. Keep track in Excel.
5. Good customer service. Deliver more than you said you would. If I am proofing a book that is already on Amazon, I like to post a review as a bonus for the buyer. If I am to pin one image for one gig, I like to pin more than that if the content is well in line with my Pinterest followers.

*UPDATE ... Im going back a few months to when I first starting tracking my time worked each day so I can share that info with you!

This past month I went to Hobbyist in Jamberry (no more team)  and decided to not focus on direct sales (this means Younique as well). This makes my time even more focused ... on now just 4 main areas of income. I went ahead and left Jamberry on here since I made a tiny bonus and one sale last month. From here on out Im pretty much just that direct sales lady giving her discount to all her friends so hit me up!

Tracking my time and posting it is new, so it only goes back a couple of months, but starting in March Im going to keep track of time spent on updating ebooks and writing new ones because it all counts!

How Payment and Competition Work on Fiverr

So how does payment work on Fiverr? And how is the competition?

Well, the competition is pretty good but if you keep going and do well, you remain at the top of the pack in the HIGH RATING search. Just make sure you are always providing excellent service and are delivering on time. I have personally made friends with another high-rated proofreader on Fiverr and am so grateful to have met her!

Payout is anytime you like and there is a small fee to take out your money, probably to cover any PayPal fees Fiverr has to deal with. I usually wait until Im at $100+ and they only take $1 from that. You can clearly see EXACTLY when payments are going to be processed on your dashboard, so a gig would generally pay within 2 weeks. It’s cool to see that a gig you did last week for $32 is going to be paying out this week on Friday or that a bunch of $4 gigs you did are all hitting tomorrow, ready for payout. I have never had a problem with getting paid. Other options include a Fiverr Revenue Card and direct deposit.

BEWARE: Its rare but sometimes you have to deal with some douche who never intended on paying you for your services, no matter how well you delivered them. A downside of Fiverr is that they have such a high volume of sellers and buyers that they just automatically believe a buyer who is not satisfied and refund their money. Thats not such a huge deal to shake off if it was only one or two gigs, but if it ever happened that someone reneged on a huge job and Fiverr backed them, I would have to quit working for them.

Gigs Ive purchased include gigs for ebook covers, Facebook fan page covers, home-made marshmallows (shipped) and these cute little cube animals (shipped) for the kids. Think Etsy meets EVERYTHING!

Book Review Gigs for Clients on Fiverr

*Im not going to get into with you if this is ethical or not. It is happening and that is all. As long as someone is not providing you with review text and you are giving your own honest review, I dont see a problem with this. You are being paid for your TIME, not for a 5-star review. I personally always feel smarmy asking for a review on any of my own ebooks for free ... someone is spending their time to check out my book and I feel like they should be compensated.

Okay, that being said, there are a lot of companies and authors looking for book reviews. Product reviews are a different animal and I would not do one of those unless provided with the product.

Heres my personal experience with doing book reviews for Fiverr clients: It was too busy and I could not keep up! Then someone reported me or something and I got shut down. Fiverr shut down my book review gig and wont let me even put REVIEW in any of my gigs anymore. Im not sure how this highly successful Fiverr seller has gotten away with it for years but see how she words her gigs. Remember that when you are first starting on Fiverr you cant offer the EXTRAS like she is doing ... I believe you can do that after about 30 days. Then its nice to be able to charge an extra 2 gigs for 24-hour turnaround if you are able.

For now you can charge one gig for the review and another gig for any ebook priced up to $4 and a third gig for any ebook priced up to $8 (Fiverr takes 20% of your sales so keep in mind you get $4 per paid gig and not $5). You keep any overage. You simply purchase the ebook on Amazon, peruse it, speed read, whatever, and give a review. If there are ever any problems with getting paid from a buyer, simply go back to Amazon and request a refund for your ebook purchase.

The seller I referenced above, plus all the others doing this, must be speed readers or have a lot of time on their hands as shut-ins or something???? I cant figure it out and let me know if you can! I wish you success at whatever you try on Fiverr!

*Do not give 24-hour service for free and do not pre-write a review until you have been paid, no matter how big a hurry you are in. There are people/buyers on Fiverr who are looking for free work and will threaten to give you bad feedback if you dont cancel their order and give it to them for free. Trust your instincts on jobs like this.

How to Get Started as a Writer on Fiverr

I have to say I mostly do proofreading and other things on Fiverr, but I was writing blog posts for different people for a while over one summer on there. I stopped doing it because my proofreading was taking off on Fiverr and I didn’t have the time to devote to writing.

Basically you would start by signing up on Fiverr.

Check out the Writing/Translation section of Fiverr to see what others are doing as far as gig offerings … how many words will they write for $5 (remember you only get $4 of that)? How fast is their turnaround? How fast can you turn something out?

Then fill in a wonderful profile with your photo and information about yourself. Check out other profiles to see what others have written. If youd like to see my profile and gigs, I am here.

After your profile is polished, create a gig. You can create as many gigs as you like. I believe you have to wait 30 days to be able to offer Gig Extras like charging more for extra fast delivery, writing more words, accepting a tip, etc.

Offer, for instance, to write a 250-word blog post for a business for $5. Can you do that in about 15 minutes? Good! Then you’ll be making double minimum wage in America while working from home! You can also offer to be a ghost writer for a certain amount of words for one gig, write an ebook, write marketing materials, whatever you are great at!

Giving and Getting Feedback on Fiverr

Let me tell you something: You definitely want good feedback on Fiverr. You don’t want negative ratings. I had a buyer turn on me once early on in my Fiverr career back in 2013 when I was overloaded and had made a couple of mistakes; they had two proofing orders in the queue and they gave me bad feedback on both, totally blowing my 100% rating. To be honest, I didnt handle the situation well. I was exhausted and overwhelmed and was overworking myself and I "defended" myself instead of just apologizing and making it right. I learned my lesson for sure.

Then I had a third negative feedback when my husband was ripping up our carpet and doing our hardwood floors and my grandpa was dying and our internet was out for a day. The buyer said I made some mistakes but would not tell me what. I made the other mistake of getting personal about my life instead of being professional. I told him about my husband and kids and internet being out. DONT DO THAT!

So basically just treat the customer well and over-deliver if you can. For example, when I do my social media gigs, I like to deliver an extra post or tweet or pin just because. When I deliver my order I also say something like, “Please let me know if you have any questions on this at all.” It makes a big difference when you treat someone well. Of course you will have those customers who are never going to be happy but 99% of them are totally reasonable.

And when they have rated you positively, make sure you leave a note back for them thanking them, telling them it was great to work with them, etc. The higher the number of your good ratings, the more sought-out you will be by future potential customers.

Its also important to work with people in a professional way because now Fiverr has an option for a buyer to give you a tip, which rocks! Ive been tipped many times and sometimes on orders that had me banging my head against a wall trying to please the buyer.

Be professional. Dont get personal. Dont make excuses for mistakes if you make them. Just fix them.
