5 Great Home Business Ideas for Moms

,
Starting your own business can seem overwhelming. The good news, is that it doesn’t have to be. You don’t need a sizeable starting cash flow or investors lining up at your door. You can actually start a business with relatively little cash and do it all from your home. All it takes is hard work and a desire to succeed.

So now that the main question regarding cash is out of the way, what business should you start? The answer to this will be based off of what you enjoy, what your skills are, and what you can see yourself doing for an at home business. Below are just a handful of ideas to get you started.

1. Medical Coding

Medical Coding has incredible earning potential, although it will be a bit more challenging to get yourself started.

Medical coding requires training and coding software. Certifications are also needed as it will ensure potential clients of your validity.

As a medical coder, you’ll work with doctors’ offices and hospitals to code documents for insurance purposes. It is up to you to find these clients through networking opportunities and other marketing channels.

One of the biggest issues when starting a medical coding business is the amount of scams that target would-be medical coders. These scams promise to provide software, training, certification, and even clients providing you with incredible revenue. Always remember, if it seems too good to be true, it usually is.

2. Freelance Writing

Freelance writing requires almost no cash to get started. The basics to get started are a computer and email address.

The opportunity for freelance writing is abundant. Marketing firms and departments are beginning to create a plethora of content for their websites. With so much content to create, many marketing teams are turning to freelance writers to get the job done.

The range of topics available to write about are vast. You may be writing about technology, consumer goods, animals, sports, or even marketing. There are a handful of sites that connect you with work needed such as Guru, oDesk, and Textbroker.

Additionally, freelance writing could take you towards the non-profit sector. A grant writer helps connect funders and grant seekers.

3. Pet Sitter/Walker

If you’re an animal person, starting a pet sitting or dog walking business is right up your alley.

A pet owner never wants to leave their pet cooped up inside all day. However, most people are extremely busy with their jobs, their children’s activities, and more. Having the option to leave their dog with a pet sitter is a great alternative.

A great way to get started is through word of mouth. Letting your network know that you are starting a business and looking for clients will help to get the ball rolling. Consider working with apartment communities and home communities to spread flyers about your business.

Additional places to market your services are the dog park and retirement communities. A lot of pet owners at the dog park only get to take their dog there on occasion. Chances are they’ll want their dog out and about a lot more.

Retirement communities are a great place to start because many pet owners in these communities may lack the energy or capabilities to walk their dog.

4. Wedding Planner/Bridal Consultant

Creative, organized, detail oriented and level-headed moms make for great wedding planners. Starting a wedding planning business puts you in an industry that is never going away and only seems to spend more as time goes on.

Weddings have become extremely lavish over the years with increasingly larger budgets. A lot of details go into making a wedding a success and sometimes the bride can’t or doesn’t want to handle it herself. This is where her wedding planner comes in.

You’ll handle all aspects of the big day including tiny details such as table centerpieces all the way to large items such as venue deposits. It takes a very specific type of person to do this job but it can also be an incredibly fulfilling job.

5. Crafter: Sewing, Soap Making, etc.

By now, you’ve probably heard of Etsy. It is a crafter’s version of Amazon with beautifully displayed goods.

Another business venture for the creative mind is to start your own crafting business. Sewing, crocheting, soap making, and more are all different types of businesses a mom can start from home.

Homemade soap has become increasingly popular as consumers become more in-tune with what they are putting on their body. Organic soaps made with various herbs and ingredients make for soothing and deliciously scented baths.

Crafters can sell their goods online, at craft fairs, farmers markets and even through major distributors if you can make a decent splash with your product.

Overall, the possibilities for a home business are endless. These five are great starts and have been successful ventures for many moms out there. Now, it’s time to start your business.

A Fun and Lucrative Business Almost Anyone Can Do
By Marc Charles
I discovered a fun and lucrative business almost anyone can do…from anywhere.
I say “almost anyone” because this is not for everybody. There’s some work involved, a knowledge curve and details that might overwhelm some people.
But, this business is fun, and you can do it “on the road”, in your spare time or work from your kitchen table if you want to.
The idea is to acquire products at deep discounts from more than a hundred countries around the world, and sell the products online at amazing markups.
The greatest obstacle when it comes to selling products online is traffic. You need tons of targeted traffic and qualified buyers (versus tire kickers). The problem is this kind of traffic costs money, unless you can piggyback sites like Amazon, ebay, CraigsList and other shopping sites.
Last week while moderating a forum I set up around this business, I was amazed how people were leveraging this business and making money.
One gentleman from Germany was importing colored computer cables at deep discounts and reselling them on technology shopping sites at huge mark ups.
A young woman, Jenny, is importing Christmas supplies and reselling them to other online retail stores. She’s doing this from her “pantry office” next to the kitchen in Calgary Alberta Canada.
The point is this is a fun and lucrative business almost anyone can do, even if you don’t have a lot of money to get started.
I also discovered a trading exchange that enables entrepreneurs to locate reputable suppliers in other countries and order from them directly instead of going through a middleman.
I know dozens of entrepreneurs who are leveraging this neat business. You can meet them in this program I’ve developed to help you get started.
Today, starting a business on a shoestring is much easier than it was 30 years ago—or even five years ago.
Theres nothing wrong with building a big business. I’ve helped dozens of entrepreneurs and start-up ventures do it.
But when you run a business from your kitchen table, a back bedroom, or even “on the road” as your travel you can greatly reduce the downside risk and expense.
Almost anyone can do this business. Plus, the weak economy makes this business even more viable.

Editorsnote:Remember you only have one more day to get Marc’s program with a $100 discount.Try it out. This might be just the right opportunity for you. Sign up to receive it now. URL

The Birth of a Business by Cory Tsuhako review

,

Im going to be upfront with you here. I had the pleasure of proofreading this ebook recently and really loved it. I told the author I would love to do a review on my blog because, quite frankly, I think its a great read about how he started his own business (birthed it!) and saw it through ten years of ups and downs, happiness and sadness, changes and more.

Heres my review I posted on Amazon:

I love what another reviewer said about this book, that the author is approachable. This book is not written by some know-it-all, I-am-the-best type of person. This is written by someone who is humble and tells you honestly how his business went for 10 years.

He doesnt make it seem like a get-rich-quick thing ... rather, you are shown that business is very difficult and there are times you wonder if you will make a dime even when you are working your tail off.

This book is packed with helpful advice for anyone thinking of starting their own business. It discusses family, faith, friends, coworkers, the team you build and finding good people to work with.

This is a terrific resource!

Heres how you can buy this ebook at a very affordable price. And ... insider information, so be cool and keep it on the down-low ... its FREE Friday through Sunday, so please get it for free and come back and leave a review. Reviews are imperative to sales on Amazon, and I believe in this ebook!

Do You Procrastinate in Your Business

,
I have so many little business things to do that I keep putting off and they could each mean sales in two of the companies I work with doing direct sales. I should do them first thing in the morning when the kids are sleeping and I have a bit of brain power but I keep putting them off.
I need to send emails to the people who requested Jamberry nail wrap samples and let them know they were sent and that they can contact me at these different places. I need to send emails to all the people who requested samples from way back on to see if they tried their samples and if they would like to buy, party or join my team. Can’t hurt to ask; I’m just not asking.
I need to do the same with Younique, only anyone who tries a sample of that buys so no follow-up there … not too many samples sent yet but each one bought something.
I ordered thank you cards in bulk on ebay today so I can start writing thank you notes to past customers and include a freebie in each one! I love to show appreciation for my customers!
So often I put off doing things that I know will help me to be successful. Do you ever do that?

How to Get the Cash You Need for Your Business Quickly and Easily by Marc Charles

,

How to Get the Cash You Need for Your Business Quickly and Easily

May 30 2015
10:13 AM

Greetings:

Money makes the world go round…..or is that love?

Well…..let’s just say money makes business go round.

One question I often receive is, “Do you have any money sources I could use”?

Most of the entrepreneurs know I’m not a big fan of borrowing money to start a business.

But sometimes money can help you expand a profitable business, get equipment, or branch out into other ventures.

On top of that, when you have access to capital you can acquire a business, develop real estate, buy manufacturing a plant or import products from other countries…to cite a few examples.

Today  I’ll focus on legitimate money and lending sources.

I’ve included links to angel investors, venture capital, grants, low (and no) interest loans and more.

Let’s get this party started…..and get the money you need!

There is a cardinal rule of successful borrowing and getting the money you need.

It is this……

Focus on the bank, investor or money sources which specialize in the type of loan you seek.

In other words, if a bank, investment firm or money source specialize in loans for real estate, then seek this source for real estate deals.

If a bank or money source specializes in business acquisition or expansion, then seek these them for this purpose.

Too often entrepreneurs approach a bank with a great proposal or executive summary only to be turned down.

For example, if you approach a small local bank for a loan to expand your import business the chances are slim to none of obtaining it.

What’s more, if you approach a Wall Street investment bank for a $40,000 auto loan, you’ll probably be turned down.

But….if you apply for an auto loan at a local credit union specializing in auto loans the chances are very high you’ll get it!

It’s important to focus on the bank or money sources which specialize in the type of loan you seek.

Grants follow this same logic….

The reason most grant proposals are turned down is because they don’t focus on grantor’s sole objective. If you want grant money to build your operation then build your proposal around the grantor’s sole objective (not yours).

One of my favorite money source gurus is Tyler Hicks. If you research his site, books and products you’ll see what I mean. I’ve been a subscriber to his newsletters for more than 15 years.

Small business banks and money sources are usually very receptive to lending money for business opportunities, expansion and qualified real estate ventures.

Philanthropists Hand Donate Cash for the “Right” Causes

Wealthy individuals enthusiastically hand over millions of dollars through foundations, to people and causes.

The “right cause” is a key to receiving money for your cause or venture.
The likelihood of receiving money from wealthy individuals to pay bills, buy a new car, or acquire a new boat is pretty slim.

But thousands of people, groups and organizations receive money from wealthy individuals by asking for it, or by promising to commit the funds to the “right cause”.

The late Percy Ross in Edina Minnesota was the founder of the “Thanks a Million” newspaper column. It reached millions of people every week. Individuals could write to Percy with their requests, and many of the requests were honored with an award.

Here are some wealthy individuals and organizations granting cash awards to the “right causes” on a regular basis:

[MCS3]You will need to determine why your company is unique, special or better than the competition.  I do not have this information or insight

[MCS4]You can insert financial information here. It doesn’t need to be extensive, and especially for a startup. But it is usually good to list assets, liabilities and operating expenses.

[MCS5]You can insert your name and a short bio here. If you have other people helping you or managers you can insert his or her names here as well. The bios should be short and emphasize expertise as it relates to THIS venture.

[MCS6]You can insert your marketing strategy here. Most entrepreneurs wait until the last minute to address marketing issues and strategies. I think it’s the FIRST thing that needs to be addressed. You can work on your marketing strategy. But I wrote an example.

[MCS7]If you are seeking investors, financing or business grants you can insert your requirements here. It is best to round off amounts, and show investors or banks how and when notes will be repaid. I wrote an example.

The Art Business of Writing by Chris Jones

,
Loved this book. So much helpful advice. Perfect size ... not too long and not too short. It even went beyond where I am in my career right now and took it to business cards (I do have a mommy card with all my businesses on it) and web hosting (I just use free Blogger and have for about 9 years) advice.

Here are some takeaways for me personally, and I have been writing for publication since about 2006 and ebooks since 2009:

  • Check out the Pomodoro timer in your phones app store. Interesting to see how much work I was actually getting done versus how much time I THOUGHT I was spending working. It was much less, actually. Heres my post about discovering this helpful app!
  • This book made me realize that it would be doable for me to write 500 words per day if I made room in my life for that and did it first, BEFORE sitting down to my proofreading jobs. Its all about priorities.
  • The book is about the Art + Business of writing. To me thats like being good at English + Math, you know? You cant be all about the art of it ... because you also have to worry about record keeping, collections, getting clients, marketing and so much more!
  • Who is my reader? What do I hope they will learn and how will I help them? Like with my cookbooks, thats easy. And same for my book about making money to write for magazines. But my parenting Christmas and Halloweens? Kinda general and might need to be reworked into a more general Holidays book thats more focused on solutions.
  • Am I writing for them or for me? You have to somewhat write for yourself. Like most of my parenting articles were for me and same for the tater tot cookbook and even the magazine one was to compile all my markets but then I wrote all the tips in the beginning for the reader! I put all the tater tot recipes in one place so I would have them. Then I spiced them up and created more and added desserts! This gets me so excited to work on my other 8 projects I want to do, like this one!

What are some helpful things that work for you in your life as a writer?

**There were typos that were distracting to me as a proofreader. If there were only a couple I would not even mention it, but there were many and they were easy-to-catch things like commas for pauses and "your" instead of "you" ... and others. I have to admit I do proofread my own work because Im a proofreader, but I probably should not be doing that. I recently read something decent with few typos and knew the author did not use a proofreader and she said she used Grammarly. Im just saying Word and Grammarly are not humans, so spend the money to hire a proofreader for your baby (your book) or someone like me is going to mention it so you fix it. We dont do it to be mean, we do it so youll make it right and do better on your next book! I promise I am not even trolling for new clients when I point these things out; I am so busy on Fiverr already! I loved this book so much that I am choosing to ignore the typos and give it five stars on Amazon!
