What Do I Want to Do in 2014

Ah, goals. Gotta love em! I dont think its too early to start thinking about this. The holiday season is upon us and we are going to be getting very busy. So what about some goal setting now?

1. One of the top posts people come to this blog to see is about Babble.com submission guidelines. I want to have a piece published over there so I can talk about my own personal experience with it instead of just having the guidelines there.

2. Another top post is checking for Family Fun submission guidelines. What if I could get something that amazing publication? So theres another little goalie-poo that would also take care of ...

3. Get published in a national magazine in 2014 using the guidelines from my very own ebook!

4. Keep writing for the regionals, which I love.

5. Write 4 more ebooks for Amazon Kindle.

6. Keep proofreading/editing at Fiverr.com as writerkerrie.

7. Grow my new business, The Kindle Pixie, which helps promote self-published authors.

8. Keep writing for Bubblews because it pays and because it helps spark new ideas for articles and ebooks.

9. Pull down at least $2,000 per month. Heres October 2013s income in case you missed it.

10. Toss me out a goal. Challenge me to do something new!

Is This All The Money You Want To Make

I signed up on some general freelance sites to do some quick online work for money. I have worked for Contently.com in the past and the pay was terrific by my standards ($97 via PayPal pretty fast for a 300-word travel piece, for example).

But this site is ridiculous ... I have removed some of the information from the email I got, but when I saw the pay rates I felt sorry for those of you who are writing this stuff. I know someone has to do it and all that.

Im sure those who write the $1000 pieces for national parenting magazines think I am settling by writing $50 pieces for regionals, but it is real money that just keeps coming in. And lets not forget I get 10 cents a word for original pieces that I then resell for hundreds of dollars more over the course or time. It would take me a long time to write a bunch of 200-word pieces and then only make $50 in the end.

"We have a new high volume project were working on, which is particularly promising for writers looking for long term projects to get involved with.

The project is for short form (100 - 250 words), creative/witty, apartment complex descriptions in the following cities: xxxxxx. These descriptions are not sales pitches, and dont have any keyword requirements. Theyre meant to highlight the positive features of the complex/surroundings, but be honest about short comings (i.e. building management is not helpful, steep pet fees, or far from pubic transportation,etc.). Familiarity of the areas is very helpful, as the pieces are meant to be highly localized (offering tips about the great restaurant down the block, and all the neighborhoods best features), but much of the info can be found on yelp reviews.

We have two tiers of descriptions ones that range closer to 200-250, and ones that are closer to 70-115 words. These pay $5 and $2.5 a piece respectively. Well be batching them in groups of 10, so each job pays $50 or $25. Well also be adding editors to this project, so the strongest writers will be offered editor positions as well. Please update me if youre interested in learning more about that role.

We have 450 descriptions (totaling 45 jobs in Scripted), still in need of writers for the xxxregions. New York pieces will be submitted early next week (and due later). The deadline for the existing pieces is Monday 3/25 by end of business."
